Wellsville City is joining with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office and the Cache County Emergency Response Team (CERT) Council to offer an 8-week course for people interested in learning how to take care of themselves, their families, and their communities in an emergency.

There is no fee for the course, however training material and supplies (manual, ID card, instruction materials, and basic CERT kit) will cost approximately $48.00. Wellsville City will reimburse $30.00 to city residents who successfully complete this course (requires attending all 8 classes). For more information contact City Council member Ron Case at 245-4021. Pre-registration is required.

Dates: Thursdays beginning September 2,
Time: 6:30 p.m. Each class lasts for aproximately 2-1/2 hours.
Location: Cache County Sheriffs Office, 1225 West Valley View Highway, Logan.
Ages: 18 years and older

Disaster Medical – Triage and Treatment
Search and Rescue
Disaster Psychology
Terrorism
Review

In addition to the weekly training, the course ends on Tuesday Oct. 26th with a simulated emergency held at the Logan City Fire Department Training Tower.

Founders’ Day 2010

This year’s Founders’ Day celebration is fast approaching. Plan now to attend as many of the events as you can fit into your schedule. With the best parade in the valley, the Patriotic Program, several sports tournaments, dancing, races and rodeos – this years Founders’ Day (which runs for a full week!) has something for everybody!

Hyrum Senior Center

All Seniors are invited to enjoy the programs, games, and opportunities offered at the Hyrum Senioe Center, which includes quilting, game days on Tuesday, and Friday is Free Bingo Day. On the third Tuesday of each month is a free foot clinic. The Center is open Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A tasty and healthy lunch is served at noon for $2.50. Please call 245-3570 by 10:00 a.m. to be put on the lunch list.

On August 11th at 12:00 p.m. a summer social will be held. Gordon Johnson, an actor and singer, will perform. For more information please call Vickie at 245-3570.

Wellsville City Park Rules

The Wellsville Dam area rules are:

“Please be respectful of our Beautiful Parks”

THE PARK IS CLOSED FROM DUSK UNTIL ONE HOUR BEFORE DAWN.

1. No smoking, alcoholic beverages, or drugs allowed.
2. No overnight camping except in designated camping areas on the east side of the dam.
3. Fires only in fire rings.
4. Dogs must be on a lease at all times – owners are responsible for waste cleanup – dogs should not be chained to trees in the park.
5. No horses or motorized vehicles on grass or trails.
6. No littering or dumping – garbage receptacles are available for use.
7. No discharge of firearms, explosives, or fireworks.
8. No loud music, boisterous or threatening conduct, indecent language or any other disruptive behavior.
9. A valid Utah fishing license is required and all other DWR fishing regulations are in force.
10. No swimming or motorized boats or watercraft in the resevoir.
11. No archery, golf, or paint-balling.
12. No actions deemed destructive to the park, restrooms, recreational facilities, or surrounding properties.

VIOLATION OF PARK RULES AND REGULATIONS SHALL
CONSTITUTE A CLASS “C” MISDEMEANOR PER WELLSVILLE
CITY RESOLUTION 2009-07.
VIOLATORS MAY BE EVICTED OR CITED.

The New Walking Trail is Now Open

The new walking trail at the Wellsville Dam has been finished. We want to invite all members of the community to visit the Wellsville Dam and see the improvements for yourself. A list of the improvements is available on this page by scrolling down to the post titled ‘Trail Construction’.

Order ‘Windows of Wellsville’ by September 30th

The city has had requests for a reprint of Windows of Wellsville books. These informative books contain Wellsville’s history from the years 1856-1984. The books would need to be prepaid and would cost $60-$65. If a large enough quantity is preordered, we may be able to sell the books at a slightly lower cost. Orders would need to be prepaid before the books could be ordered. Contact the city office at 245-3686 for more information.

Sewer Clean-out Reminder

Beginning August 2nd, the city will begin cleaning out many of the sewer main lines throughout the city. At times, the pressure created while cleaning the lines can cause the water in toilet bowls to gurgle or splash. In order to avoid back splash, please keep the lids on your toliets closed during the month of August.

American Idol Connection Comes to Wellsville

The next Wellsville Concert in the Park will be Monday night August 9 and brings American Idol connections to Wellsville. The Kaelin family, consisting of Anna and her father Dean, will perform. Anna is a Season 8 American Idol Finalist and Dean was David Archeletta’s voice coach. This very talented pair will perform in the shadows of the Historic Wellsville Tabernacle. Bring your family, your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of great music and family fun.

Anna is a popular country/pop singer and has opened for Vince Gill. You can learn more about Anna, hear some of her songs and see her videos here.

Dean Kaelin, Anna’s father, is a multi-talented LDS musician, songwriter, composer, arranger, vocal coach, performer, recording artist and guest lecturer.

Wellsville Horse Parade & Cowboy Celebration

Cowboy Days and Horse Parade

Mark July 17, 2010 on your calendar for Wellsville’s Horse Parade and Cowboy Celebration! Enjoy an entire day set aside to honor and celebrate the American Cowboy and Horse.

View the Horse Parade down Wellsville’s Main Street starting at 10:30 am and then look over the western displays and crafts. Plenty of good food will be available for purchase, and there will be lots of free entertainment. In addition, a prize drawing will be held for a one-night stay and a one-hour horse ride for 2 at Beaver Creek Lodge up beautiful Logan Canyon. A fun, open mic for music and poetry reading will be available from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.
