Radon is a cancer causing radioactive gas that is produced by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. Radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Radon gas is found all over the world, including in Utah. Cache Valley has some of the highest radon gas levels in the state, with Wellsville experiencing some of the highest levels in the valley.

An information meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Willow Valley Middle School. John Hultquist from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality will be the guest speaker and will explain what radon is, how it affects homes, and the medical issues involved with exposure to high radon levels.

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase radon detection kits for $8 each. Those people who have personally experienced radon gas issues are invited to come and share their stories. Feel free to bring your friends and neighbors to this information meeting.
